Avon’s Madison Kennedy will spending the two weeks in Asia competing in the FINA Swimming World Cup series in Hong Kong, Beijing, China and Singapore. The World Cup provides world-class swimmers an opportunity to compete in a series of two-day meets from August through November. Eight are scheduled for this year.
Kennedy and Missy Franklin are the only two American women competing in this weekend’s World Cup meet in Hong Kong. Franklin is entered in four events along with Kennedy.
Kennedy is set to compete Friday in her best event – the 50-meter freestyle – and the 50 backstroke. On Saturday, she will swim in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Kennedy is the No. 4 seed in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.71 seconds and the only American in the field. She is the No. 5 seed in the 100 freestyle in 54.72 seconds. In the backstroke, Kennedy is the No. 10 seed in the 50 back in 29.15 and the No. 13 seed in the 100 back in 1:05.89.
The World Cup moves to Beijing, China with competition on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and Wednesday, Sept. 30 and then to Singapore with racing on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4.
